September 28 – Highwood Theater (ONP # 271)
Good friends take you to New Places: A true fact of life.
Thanks to a good (And talented. And funny) friend, I got to visit this hitherto-unknown-to-me theater in downtown Silver Spring for their Improv night. It’s a sleeper, this theater—unassuming from the outside, (Marquis? No. Box office? No. Looks like you might be walking into a podiatrist’s office? Yes.)
But inside, a charming zen garden overlooked on three sides by a balcony greets you. A guy with a Square machine at a makeshift counter constitutes the box office; a half sheet of photocopied office paper suffices for the ticket, and, upstairs, another little counter with a few tables and chairs fills the role of snack bar. The whole place is warm and welcoming.

Just another example of people caring enough to make a space for cool things in this world.
