Sep 22 – Mr. Henry’s (ONP #265)
And with this New Place, I am down to only 100 more new places to go reach my goal of seeing One New Place every day in 2018!
Fittingly, today’s New Place was a kind of celebration–a get-together with friends. And as I said before, I am partial, this year, to invitations that take me to New Places. So although I would usually be a little curmudgeonly about going way across the city to meet friends, tonight I was happy to make this trip to Capital Hill to visit this neighborhood mainstay.
Mr. Henry’s has been in the neighborhood over 50 years, and is particularly a cornerstone of the DC jazz scene, perhaps most famously as providing a regular venue for Roberta Flack when she was an up and coming singer. As you may or may not be able to see (in the dark, underexposed picture below), a sign for her band “Roberta Flack Trio” still hangs above the mirror at the cash register/bar.
Of course, the problem with discovering this place is that now I wish I live closer so that I could go to Mr. Henry’s more often. . .
Hi! I’m Suzanne. I’ve committed to seeing One New Place every day for the year 2018! Join me and follow along with my daily adventures. Even better, try it for yourself–discover One New Place every day/week/month–whatever interval of time works for you!
