October 4 – The Tile Shop (ONP #275)
“Aisles and aisles of tiles. . .” or “I see tiles for miles and miles. . . ” Today’s New Place obviously inspired poetic reflection.
Actually today’s New Place was kind of a tongue-in-cheek choice. “Why not?,” I thought. It seemed a little silly to me–a whole store (and a big one too!) dedicated to tiles. But I had some errands in this neighborhood (Tenleytown), and I needed a New Place. I guess today I was actually desperate enough to go in.
Anyway, it turned out to be pretty cool. SO MANY KINDS OF TILES. . . . Who knew? Stone, Ceramic, Faux-stone, Faux-ceramic, Indoor, Outdoor, Bathroom, Kitchen, Floor, Wall, Victoria & Albert collection, etc. etc. Two floors, and like I said, aisles and aisles.
Little display islands were peppered throughout the store with bathroom and kitchen designs–some modern glass-like tiles, some ancient classic-tiles, almost like mosaics. It made me appreciate the tiles more once I saw this, remembering that tiles have been part of art and architecture for centuries.

Anyway, it was a fun to wander around, but I ended up very grateful that I am not in the middle of any home renovation project that involves tiles because this place would give me serious decision fatigue!
Enjoy the pics! And with today’s New Place, I am down to only 90 more New Places to go until the end of the year!
