August 4 – Fort Bunker Hill Park (ONP #216)

 Continuing my Civil War Fort series here in D.C., I ventured into the Brookland neighborhood today to check out Fort Bunker Hill Park.

The “fort” part of this park has definitely been taken over by the “park” part of this park. Indeed, the Civil War fortifications seem to have been swallowed back up into the ground by the woods and kudzu that have grown up over this site. So now, it’s just a solid city block of woods, with a few hiking trails that worm their way inside and around.

We did meet this handsome fella’ though, who seemed to say “Who are you and why are you here?”:
