September 16 – Howard University Yard (ONP #259)
I took advantage of a beautiful Sunday afternoon to get outside and explore Howard University’s main quad, “The “Yard,” today, with its gorgeous brick buildings and classic architecture. The library, with its columns and pretty white cupola and a couple of other buildings date from the early 1900s; the chapel, a small, Gothic-style building from the late 1800s.
Such an impressive place–one of those where you can almost feel the history in the air as you walk around.
I just can’t believe it’s taken me over 13 years of living in DC to visit. Especially as it’s only about a 10 minute drive from my house!
Meanwhile, Lola made her own impression by getting loose while I was distracted taking a picture and running halfway across the quad to chase a squirrel up a tree. I guess she needs some coursework of her own. . .
Enjoy the pictures! They speak a thousand words.
