August 30 – Port Clinton Fire Tower (ONP #242)

Like that old cliché, today’s New Place was definitely more about the journey (a long, slow climb up a mountain on gravel road, just following my nose, driving straight into the clouds and listening to my ears pop), than the destination (a fenced-off old fire tower with no view, where I was the main course at the mountain mosquito buffet).

Only a few pictures turned out, amidst all the driving and slapping.

The coolest thing was just getting off the main roads and going deep onto this mountain that I have merely driven by for decades–made my world a little more three dimensional. This mountain is also crossed by the Appalachian trail, by the way!
